This stunning first impression puts the focus squarely on this firm's intellectual property practice. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and this firm makes a good one. And if you are annoyed by frames and Java (as we generally are), this firm allows you to turn those off (which we did). The home page highlights the fact that the firm's attorneys have written many treatises on intellectual property law. The "leading treatises" link from the home page takes you to the "books" page which proclaims "When it comes to Intellectual Property - We wrote the Books." Very nice. The list of books includes links to the attorney profiles for the respective authors, and the attorney profile pages include links to Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory listings for each attorney. This multi-layered linking reflects the sprit of the web and demonstrates smart website design. It also enhances users' experience at the site. And in case that isn't enough for you, the attorney profile pages also link to summaries of representative cases in which each attorney has been involved. Did we mention we like the design of this site? And it gets better. Under "BHG&L Resources," you'll find summary reports of all patent and trademark decisions of the Court of Appeals for The Federal Circuit (CAFC) since 1996. And although we generally discourage pages of external links (instead recommending that firms link to FindLaw), we like the name "Brinks Links" that this firm has chosen for its page. And the links page is short enough and focused enough that, if it is updated, does the job better than FindLaw. The search engine allows you to search the entire site or just the CAFC reports. Search engine output is among the best we've seen. No site is perfect (for example, we'd add bookmark-friendly page titles), but this site comes darn close. |
