Welcome to our review of O'Melveny Online. It took about 32 seconds to load the home page over a 28.8 modem. The home page contained 92.6 Kbytes of content, 87.1 Kbytes of which was graphics. A bit much, in our opinion. We only mention this when we notice it, and we noticed the delay in this case. Once they loaded, the graphics were quite snazzy. Inside, the professional look-and-feel continued. A two-frame presentation was used effectively, and the navigation bar included visual feedback indicating which section you're currently viewing. The "Visit our Virtual Library" section appears to be written by the department of redundancy department. For example, the "explanation" under Index of "Articles and Speeches" reads "View an index of O'Melveny & Myers articles and speeches by subject area." Ah. But don't be fooled. The articles and speeches themselves are not online, just (quite literally) an index of them. Not to put too fine a point on it, but it is pointless to publish information about your publications when you could (and should) publish the publications themselves. There is a recruiting section, which is nice since many firms ignore this aspect of their Web sites. Here's our review of the recruiting section: "Welcome to the our review of the Recruiting Section of O'MELVENY ONLINE!" And the "Explore our Practices" area includes the firm's practice areas. We wish more firms would include the option to search for attorneys by first name, as O'Melveny has done, although we found the use of new windows for the attorney profile links annoying. The Excite search engine produced good output, but not all of the pages used bookmark-friendly titles.
