| Our first impression is that of a 53 K splash page graphic desperately trying to load over a dial-up connection before the home page automatically loaded. Either a smaller graphic or a longer delay between splash page and home page would solve this problem. Inside, the site uses a cluttered frames-based presentation, sometimes with three or four frames per page. We've never seen a frame-based site done well with more than two frames per page, and this implementation is no exception. Especially on a 640x480 monitor. The firm's New York section included framed content from www.mapblast.com (which was not specifically identified as such). We find this approach questionable for a law firm, especially since TotalNews (www.totalnews.com) was so conspicuously sued by various media companies for similar actions (see http://cnnfn.com/digitaljam/9703/04/total_news_pkg/). Also, the firm's New York page includes a "NYC Link," which opens a window in a new frame to an external site. So in our first few moments on the site, we've been sent away, and it wasn't clear that we were going there! Then, when we clicked on "What's New," the reason for the chaos became apparent. The site is under construction. It has never taken this long for us to discover that a site is under construction. Under "LB&B Resources," we found two articles, both of which required us to fill out a form to get the complete publication. The graphics on the site are quite nice, but without any real content or coherent organization, what's the point? |
