| First impressions count. Compared to the questionable approach of Anderson Kill & Olick's site (which rotates tired lawyer jokes on its front page), we really like Jenner & Block's "opening statement": "Respect, and even reverence for the law, is at the very heart and soul of this society." Kind of nice to know where they stand, isn't it? (And aren't you more likely to hire a law firm that actually takes itself seriously?) Beyond that, the home page does a lot right: it loads quickly, links to the contact page (where all offices' contact information is listed), site map, and search engine are all on the first screen, and there's even a small box for "Latest news" that at the time of this writing was targeting law students interested in the firm's on campus recruiting program. We were disappointed that there was not more content on the site - click on "News" and you'll see a press release about the launch of the site (from February, 1998). Click on "Publications" from there and you get the dreaded "COMING SOON". In other words, the site has been live since February yet there's not a single article, newsletter, or memo to be found. Ditto for "Accomplishments" and "Seminars." That complaint aside, much of the rest of the site demonstrates a similarly well thought out design. The attorney page provides a search interface at the top, and lists all attorneys alphabetically (links also exist for lists of attorneys by city). We like the practice area descriptions - from each description, a link to "Questions" allows you immediately contact the firm. We wish more firms would give that some thought. Navigation is consistent throughout - the same links to the sitemap, search engine, and contact info are present on all pages. Graphics are remarkably small in file size - and page layout uses a combination of small graphics and tables (with colored backgrounds) to create a pleasant design without sacrificing download time. If it were not for the lack of any content on the site, this would be a top site. |
