| Ordinarily we wouldn't be big fans of a Java applet on the home page displaying a watch (after all - who wants a reminder of what time it is?). But the watch is part of a larger metaphor for the entire site. Titled "lawwatch", the site uses this metaphor throughout the site - mostly to good effect. For example: along the left column, there is an "on time this month" feature. It's a nice idea, and is a good way to rotate content of interest through the site. (A minor complaint, though: we wouldn't make the entire sentence a hyperlink; instead, we'd just link a few words and let the rest of the text appear normal and not underlined.) Attorney bios are spartan, but we like the precursor to individual listings. If you click on attorneys by office, you'll get a list of the attorneys in that particular office, along with their phone, e-mail address, and practice area. This is all dynamically generated which means it is up to date and easy to maintain. One complaint: image quality on the attorney bios was quite poor. That makes them load quickly, but quality could be improved without drastically increasing load time. Navigation is good - links are at the top of every page in the form of non-obtrusive text links. Publications are in PDF format - which is understandable if there's a lot of formatting in the document. The ones we looked at, however, are just text with footnotes - which would be much more browser-friendly as an HTML document. |
