A series of black-and-white images appear, and the last two (suggesting the future possibilities) add a touch of color. We accepted the invitation to "click to continue." Inside, the graphics tended to be too large, but I guess we're getting more patient as our modems get faster. A computer theme is used to organize the site (e.g. sections are entitled "input," "output," and "readme.txt"). Any theme can be a tough sell, but this one works. Navigation is via the older server-side image maps, and we were disappointed to see that the elegant design of the first two pages is not carried completely through the site. In particular, page layout and font selection deserve more attention. And although there is plenty of good downloadable content inside, it's mostly in Adobe Acrobat PDF format and not in HTML. This site makes an excellent first (and second) impression, and they'd have even more success with a little redesign and a more Web-ready content. |
