With the exception of the firm's name in the top frame, there are almost no graphics on the site. That can be a challenge, as HTML isn't necessarily flexible enough to give designers enough control over how the page (and text) looks. (A good exception to this rule is Davis Polk & Wardwell's site, at http://www.dpw.com/.) In Frost & Jacob's case, however, it's more a challenge than a success. The site exists in shades of gray - a gray background, the text is black (some with gray shadows)... and as a result one's reaction to it is quite muted. The content is excellent - many articles are here, scattered among several practice areas. Attorney bios contain decent information and contact info, and practice area descriptions are generally solid. But the left navigation bar (in a frame) takes up much too much room... if you need to use frames, avoid scroll bars on frames if at all possible. (In Frost & Jacob's case, we suggest eliminating the practice groups from the navigation bar and putting them one level deeper, under "Practice Groups".) The Seminars page was blank - which makes one wonder why it's included in the persistent navigation bar at all (why advertise empty content?).
