Behind The Reviews
Written by RedStreet founders Erik J. Heels and Richard P. Klau, the book RedStreet's Best Legal Websites 2000 includes the research methodology, analysis, and statistics behind the reviews; detailed scores in 50 categories for the nation's largest 300 law firms; and details about the best website designers.

There is always a risk to including content that's not under your control on your site. Such is the case with Pitney, Hardin, Kipp & Szuch's site. In the trivia game they include on the home page (no, we're not making this up), the high scorer for the month was someone identifying themselves as "Hooters" (who, it should be noted, scored a perfect 100). Other bizarre elements of this home page? The Honorable Judge Wally. We have no idea who he is or why he's on the page. But if you click on him, it just reloads the home page. The lime green background is garish, and hardly something we'd recommend for a law firm. It disappears, though, and is replaced by a white background, but the text colors change. And throughout our tour of this site, we were constantly hounded by the Honorable Judge Wally (really), who kept after us to answer a few trivia questions. We didn't like being reminded that our current score was zero. If you can get past many of the bizarre components of this site, there are some good, timely client bulletins. The use of cookies (small files placed on your hard drive by your browser so that the Web site owners can track your progress through the site) throughout the site is disturbing as well.
