HB&B attorneys have been providing legal services and setting precedent in California for more than 60 years. Today, HB&B provides legal service through more than 155 lawyers practicing in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and the Inland Empire. Our website is designed to provide continually update, pertinent information about California's dynamic business and legal environment.

California's Unfair Practices Act, Business and Professions Code §17200 is correctly named since it is just that -- unfair. This statute, which was intended as a remedy for "unfair competition" now threatens all companies doing business in California or employing California citizens. The Statute has draconian remedies requiring disgorgement of profits obtained via the allegedly unfair practice and payment of attorney's fees.
One of HB&B's most recent - and ongoing - regulatory efforts has focused on helping the National Paint & Coatings Association respond to a rulemaking proceeding before the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) involving air pollution claimed to be caused by paint emissions.

On September 30, 1999, Haight, Brown & Bonesteel LLP, presented a mock trial designed to demystify the legal implications of litigation that may be triggered by the Y2K "bug." In a mock courtroom, outfitted with cutting-edge technology, HB&B attorneys explored the issues as well as the ramifications of new laws such as the Y2K Act signed by the President on July 20, 1999.

A videotape and transcript of the September 30th "Trial of the Millennium" will be available shortly, along with the case materials distributed to attendees.  Click here for more information.
